State-of-the-Art Cancer Care with a State-of-the Heart Approach
In the medical field there is a lot of focus on tangibles which is both necessary and good. We strive for better instruments, the latest technology, more effective medicine, innovative treatment methods, more accurate testing, and measurable results. Our goal is to bring the latest and best cancer care possible to our patients. That’s very important, but in that race to bring the best, we want to make sure the real reason we do this in the first place doesn’t get lost… our patients. Behind every diagnosis, every test, every treatment… is a human being. That’s why we take a unique approach to proton therapy.
A Cancer Diagnosis Is Tough
There’s no way around it. When you hear the word cancer, it’s life-changing. Your whole world screeches to a halt and nothing else matters except beating it. All of our resources are aimed at doing exactly that. We bring the latest and best tools, technology and training to give you the best chance at winning the battle with cancer. At KCPI, we bring proton therapy, the latest form of radiation therapy to our Kansas City patients. Proton therapy offers advantages over traditional x-ray therapy and we are proud to be the only provider to offer proton therapy in an office-based setting. But we also know that while medicine and machines are critical, they aren’t all that’s needed.
Patient-First Care
If we are to have the best chance at healing the physical body, we have to realize there is a human being inside that body. And human beings need more than medicine and machines. They need a hand to hold, a reassuring hug, a shoulder to lean on, a sympathetic ear. They need so much more on their healing journey than the best medical care… they need hope. That’s why we offer Patient-First Care. While the medicine and machines soothe and heal the physical, our Patient-First Care helps heal the mental and emotional parts too. Humans are amazingly resilient when given the best care. At KCPI, we try to make that care comprehensive.
Hope Helps Make the Journey Easier
One of the most important things in a cancer journey is hope. According to an article in ScienceDirect hope is associated with less depression, distress, and symptom burden, as well as better coping and greater posttraumatic growth. Higher hope appears to predict a greater probability of survival in advanced cancer. At the same time, honest prognostic communication does not appear to decrease hope.
When we feel down, we have less energy. When we have less energy, we have less desire to fight. With cancer, we need every ounce of energy we can muster. We understand that a cancer diagnosis takes a toll physically and emotionally. So we support our patients’ emotional well-being alongside their physical health. We like to think of our Patient-First Care like a spoonful of sugar to help the medicine go down.
Setting New Standards in Cancer Care
Proton therapy sets a new standard in cancer care. Our new facility is bringing this cutting-edge therapy to thousands of cancer patients in the Kansas City area. Considering all of the advantages of proton therapy, we are proud and excited by all of that. But there’s one thing that we are even more passionate about … our commitment to patient-first care.
While we want the biggest and best weapons in this war against cancer, we know that providing the best healthcare requires more. With KCPI, our patients get more than the best medical care. They get Patient-First Care – the best cancer care and a better patient experience.
